ROLE: Wardrobe Assistant Lead
PRODUCTION: 2021 American Music Awards
PRODUCTION TYPE: Live Broadcast / Awards Show
SCOPE: Multiple Performances | New Edition, Walker Hayes & Additional Talent

I worked as wardrobe assistant lead at the 2021 American Music Awards, supporting performance wardrobe for New Edition, Walker Hayes, and other performers across the show. The role covered outfit prep, on-camera presentation, and health protocols specific to producing a live show during COVID.

My Role

• Supported performance wardrobe across multiple artists, including New Edition and Walker Hayes, from outfit preparation through live broadcast execution.

• Prepped, staged, and finalized performer wardrobe ahead of each performance, ensuring looks were production ready within tight show timelines.

• Conducted final on camera wardrobe checks, identifying and adjusting details to ensure each look translated correctly under broadcast lighting.

• Maintained organized, protocol-compliant wardrobe areas throughout the production while supporting fast paced performer transitions and COVID-era health requirements.

How I Handled It

  • Prepped and staged performer looks in advance, creating an organized wardrobe workflow that allowed each look to move efficiently from preparation to performance.

  • Conducted final camera readiness checks before performers went on stage, making adjustments based on broadcast lighting, styling, and overall on camera presentation.

  • Maintained organized and protocol compliant wardrobe areas throughout the production, balancing additional COVID-era requirements with fast turnaround times and live show deadlines.

The Challenge

A multi-performer live broadcast required wardrobe to move through preparation, final checks, and performance on a tightly coordinated schedule. Each look needed to meet styling and fit requirements while also translating correctly under broadcast lighting and on camera. COVID-era health protocols added another layer of production complexity, requiring wardrobe areas to remain compliant without disrupting live show timelines.

The Result

Successfully supported wardrobe execution across multiple performances, including New Edition and Walker Hayes, delivering camera ready looks within live broadcast timelines while maintaining required production health protocols throughout the show.
